Today is the day! After almost two years, there’s a new Frontlines novel out. ORDERS OF BATTLE is the seventh volume in the series and picks up a few years after the last book. Things have calmed down a bit for humanity after POINTS OF IMPACT, but the Lankies are still out there, and someone higher up in the chain of command has decided that now’s the time to go looking for them.
ORDERS OF BATTLE is available on the Kindle and in paperback form today. (The Audible audiobook will be delayed until February–see my previous post on that for details.) I hope you pick it up in whichever format you prefer, then read it and maybe leave a review or recommend it to friends. And most importantly, I hope you enjoy returning to the Frontlines universe with Andrew Grayson and his podhead comrades.
Just finished books 1-7. Really looking forward to book 8 – but when?
This book started off pretty darn cool, and ended on a friggin’ cliffhanger, which makes the wait for the next installment all the more unbearable…how dare you craft such a compelling narrative!
Sorry! #sorrynotsorry
This is a great addition to the series. However it amplifies the question as to who actually make the technology that the Lankies use. Nothing I have read in all the books demonstrates that the Lankies have the fine motor control and digit dexterity to build such sophisticated machines. Thoughts?
Your questions will be (mostly) answered in Frontlines #8, which is in the oven as we speak.
Thank you for the information. I hate the wait but every book has been worth it. As far as the Lankies and their technology is concerned I’d guess our main characters are proving the adage of “When you’re up to your neck in alligators it’s hard to remember that you came there to drain the swamp. “
This is a great read. The only issue is an unknown date for the next book in the series. With the direction this book took I can see many more in the series before it concludes. So do we have an expected release for the next book?
If I turn it in on time, and knowing my publisher’s lead times, I predict a release in the first quarter of 2022. I was a bit late on the last Pallladium Wars, so my entire finely calibrated schedule slid backwards by about 5 months. I blame 2020.
Hi, I really love these books. I usually listen to them. Any reason you switched narrators? I feel that Luke Daniels plays the perfect Andrew Grayson.
I outpaced Luke, and his schedule is full for the next two years, so it was necessary to choose a new narrator.
By far the best sci-fi series I’ve read, with Paladium Wars in close 2nd. Hope for loads of more books in both series in years to come.
Happy new years from Norway!
Thank you for another fantastic book. From another New Hampshire based reader next time to do something local will have to come out and meet.
I started the series on audible, and now have all the books in paper back for my shelf.
I like the physical ones because of little defects that get corrected in the digital ones ( paper back p149 speaks of eternal sensor feeds 🙂 )
My local bookshop is closed for the Covid-19 lockdown and the only version of this they have on their website is as an Audio Book anyway. No.
I’ll get it when the lockdown is over.
Oh, and I’ve been reading your scribblings since you were in Tennessee and thinking of moving into what turned out to be Castle Frostbite. Hope things continue to work out for you.
Just finished — was excellent! Really hoping we don’t have to wait two years for the next installment! 🙂
Thanks a lot for the great read! As many of the others that commented I can’t wait for your next book!
Hello Marko.
Congratulation on your 7th Frontlines book. I stumbled upon these back in April 2015, and have been hooked ever since. I must admit, I wondered where book 7 would go…and then BOOM it was like ‘OK, didn’t see that coming!’. Sufficed to say I have finished it in good order.
Now, I have to ask – when is Book 8 out please? No pressure, but leaving 7 where it is, it’s more of a cliffhanger than I’ve ever known before 🙂
Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year.
David.
I just wanted to say thanks for the new book. I’ve read all of them and make a point of buying them as opposed to borrowing them. Your skill as a writer is worth the cost of the entry fee.
Just 2 pages into the last one and needed to say it’s like putting on an old pair of slippers… Nothing better! Also, the way you described (spoiler) feeling after a death of a loved one really touched me inside… Thanks for helping me to put into words how I feel in my heart. Please keep on keeping on!
