The only time I’ve cried in public as a grown man was the time I had to have my dog put down. It’s tough. I still miss her.
Sorry about your dog, sir. I know how hard it is to lose a piece of yourself like that.
When we lost our Max last fall, i realized he was the best dog i ever had. And then i realized every dog was my favorite dog.

Thanks for sharing this. I lost one of my companions, a 17 year old cat, last August. It hit me harder than I could have ever imagined. Seeing this shows me that someone else knows the feeling of losing something that just always wanted to be with you, no matter what. I know it was just a cat, but they’re here for some reason I don’t quite understand. Those little animals truly love us.
Good.
All are pets, like all our children are distinct personalities that will never be replaced. My wife and I treasure those memories and fondly remember each one, and we know that new personalities will enter our lives when the time is right.
You are doing all the right things remembering your friend.
“[…]As for me
This prayer at least the gods fulfill
That when I pass the flood and see
Old Charon by Stygian coast
Take toll of all the shades who land,
Your little, faithful barking ghost
May leap to lick my phantom hand.”
