NEWSFLASH: I did not win the Dragon Award for Best Military SF Novel. David Weber did, and congratulations to him. Congratulations also to Larry Correia, whose SON OF THE BLACK SWORD won the award for Best Fantasy Novel.
(I didn’t expect to beat David on votes because he has a lot more fans and a lot more books out than I do, and I am but an egg in the genre.)
But it was fun and an honor just to be nominated, and I want to thank everyone who voted for CHAINS OF COMMAND and got it onto the shortlist. I wasn’t at DragonCon because I promised the wife I’d take September off from traveling, but my friend Melissa F. Olson graciously agreed to accept for me in the unlikely event of my win. I don’t know who’s more relieved now—Melissa because she didn’t have to walk up to the podium and make an acceptance speech…or me because Melissa didn’t have a chance to get creative with that acceptance speech.
love listening to your audiobooks Luke Daniels really brings them to life and captures the soul of the characters you write . these would make an amazing movie series thanks you for making my commutes the highlight of my day
Because he won the Military SF award, I bought his book. It was NOT Military SF. It was a Fantasy novel. I also thought that it was even worse than “Out of the Dark,” which had a good beginning with some pretty good battle scenes, and then degenerated into a rather silly vampire story.
I truly think that your novels were more Military SF than his, and were honestly better stories, but as you can tell, I am not a fan of Weber’s work. Honestly, I would place the quality of the Frontlines series as being on par with “Old Man’s War.” However, I also understand that this is more a popularity award than it is an award of quality.
Still, I will continue to buy each and every one of your stories as they are published, and I already have your next pre-ordered. Count me as a loyal fan. Keep up the great story telling, it seems like each book you write is better than the last.
I know Mr. Weber won, and I do think he deserves the attention, but I did notice your name mentioned a number of times by people talking about the Awards who said that they really liked your work. 😉
Nominated and voted for you and disappointed to see the loss but as you said Weber has been around longer. I’ll still be handing Amazon and Audible my money whenever one of your books comes out. I’ll be nominating your works again next year. Thanks for the stories!
