So there’s this thing called an ARC (Advance Reader Copy), which is an uncorrected bound proof copy of a novel meant for reviewers and other folks who may want to get their hands on a book before its release date. I got ARCs for CHAINS OF COMMAND, and my publisher tells me that we’re doing paperback ARCs for FIELDS OF FIRE.
Sooooo–here’s your shot at reading the fifth Frontlines novel quite a bit ahead of the official release date.
I have worked a reference to the movie ALIENS into every single Frontlines book so far. It could be a chapter heading, or a line of verbatim dialogue, for example. Once I get my hands on them, I will send a signed and personalized ARC of FIELDS OF FIRE to the first person who comments on this thread and lists all four ALIENS references from Frontlines 1-4 correctly.
Oh, too late already?
Ah nevermind i never watched the movies anyway^^
By the way: Please, please, please tell me you got a new interpreter for your fifth book in germany. It alway makes me die a little when i read how they used to translate the military “copy” straight to german…
Checked the blog a week too late
I would never have gotten these but I am commenting to say I’m simply happy to know that the next book is getting close to coming out! I devoured all 4 volumes, and sent some to a friend as a gift, too. Well done!
You’re both correct. I had multiple references in TERMS. Therefore, I declare you both winners and send you a signed ARC each.
Send me your snail mail addresses to frontlines@markokloos.com. I will send the ARCs your way when I receive them, which should be within the next few weeks.
1: “How can they cut the power?”
2: “How many drops is this for you?”
3: ““Maybe we got ’em demoralized.”
4: 38, Simulated
The last one is a chapter heading, the rest are dialogue.
Alright, I’m gonna give this a shot.
Terms of Enlistment:
Sergeant Burke is named after Carter Burke, the Weyland Yutani guy.
Lines of Departure:
Graff asks Grayson “How many drops is this for you” nearly identically to how Ripley asks Gorman.
Also, Grayson in Lines, and Hudson in Aliens both sarcastically ask if someone has been keeping up on “current events”. This may be a coincidence.
Angles of Attack:
“Maybe we got ’em demoralized”
Chains of Command
The clear winner here is the chapter “38 Simulated” which I think answers the reference in book 2.
But there’s also a character named Dietrich both in this book and Aliens, plus both Fallon and Hudson use their middle figure to adjust something when messing around with other characters. Coincidence??! Probably.
Finally, sections of all four novels and parts of Aliens take place in space and involve aliens.
Is it cheating since we already geeked about them? O:-)
