I just got a box of ARCs for BALLISTIC, the second novel in the Palladium Wars series. Still massively digging the cover, which was apparently the first shot the cover artist took at the concept. I looked at it and said, “I’m good with that.”
The Palladium Wars series is different from Frontlines by intent. Frontlines is first person present tense, Palladium Wars is third person past tense. I made that choice deliberately to give each those universes their own voice, and to make sure that Aden and the other POV characters don’t read and sound like Andrew in Frontlines. Writing in two different universes and narrative techniques has helped me improve my craft because I had to stretch slightly different writing muscles, so to speak. Starting a new series to run concurrently with Frontlines has also enabled me to look at the Frontlines universe with a new eye. Switching back and forth helps me stay on my toes and hopefully avoid falling into a rut.
You’ll be able to judge for yourselves whether I’ve succeeded with that because 2020 will see new book releases in both universes, and I hope to be able to keep that frequency going from now on.
(BALLISTIC will be out on May 26. ORDERS OF BATTLE will follow late in the year, and I’ll update this page as soon as I have a firm release date.)
She is the Audible version being released? I just finished the first book 20 minutes ago and need book two!!!!!!
Pathetic. Making readers wait nearly two years for an follow on book is disgusting. People and myself included read/enjoy these books and build an attachment around the characters and want to know what happens next.
The wait time though, due to you now starting a new series is just not acceptable and disrespectful to people who’ve be patient with your long releases.
Pathetic, the word that describes your post the clearest.
I’ve been reading Marko since his Frontline series and I too wait for the next release; but, I am in no way disappointed by the Palladium Wars series release. Reading his work, or listening to it with the fantastic narrator he has, is a breath of fresh air in a stale world; we are all better for it.
Pathetic, your lack of patience; thinking that you could influence the artistic process; the pure selfishness of your post.
Pathetic, the ego that can’t be mastered and would surely be crushed in space.
Pathetic.
Agreed, Michael Christenson II
Let me make something clear for you.
I will write whatever I want, however I want, at whatever speed life allows me to write it.
If this is not acceptable to you, there are plenty of other fine SF/F writers available for you to read.
I’ve also been here since the start of Frontlines and Love, everything about it from the Narrating to the story and even the way the story is portrayed. But Six Books in Six years is the definition of pathetic. I’m part a group who reads Sci-Fi and I’m not the only one with the complaint of the time between books.
You can’t expect people to be satisfied with nine-Ten hours of reading material each year.
So yes, I do stand by my statement that, it’s pathetic because I’ve spent my time and money into this series and I want to know how it ends before I die of old age.
Marko I’ve listen/Read to the majority of Sci books out there and unlike this series they can get atleast two books out each year.
Blood on the Stars: 5 books per year + Side series!!!
Galaxy Edge 4/6 books per year + Side series !!!
Ark Royal 2 books per year!!
Undying Mercenaries 3 books per year
Expeditionary Force 3 books per year
The list is endless. There’s is no excuse, not to be able to match that level of demand other than lack of care off your Fans/story. You haven’t even given a release date other than “Later this year” (Clap Clap)
Your response proves my point, that you don’t care about how people/fans feel about any criticisms they may have. Shameful!!
2 Years since the last book and your trying to tell me to be patient. Hahahaha. Disappointed!!
Have you ever considered, Michael, that these are different products? Jay Allan is able to pump out so many books because they are shallow, cookie-cutter and repeat plots that are there to satiate your segment of the audience that’s willing to read anything sci-fi no matter the quality. Can you honestly tell me Blood on the Stars was interesting past book 8 or 9? It’s the same cyclical plot over and over- main character fights for corrupt government, beats bad guys and defeats corruption, new bigger bad guy comes along and government becomes corrupt again, main character beats bad guy and roots out corruption… and again and again and again.
Do you see this with Frontlines or now Palladium wars? No. These are different products, they both broadly fall under Sci-Fi -> Mil Sci-Fi but they’re not the same thing. It’s like comparing the film ‘Titanic’ to the tv show ‘Days of Our Lives’. It’s a dumn comparison and you’re a selfish fool.
Marko I’ve been reading your stuff since book 1 – which coincided with me finishing school and starting university studies – your work, your art, the universe you’ve built with Frontlines, is amazing. It has allowed me to escape reality during some pretty tough times over the years. Keep up the good work (the Palladium universe is pretty nifty so far too).
If you are that impatient, try Harlequin Romance novels -intellectual pablum for those without much taste. Should suit you.
HERE, HERE!!!
Just ignore this guy, your work is WELL worth the wait and your work has inspired me to attempt to become an SF writer. You give inspiration and your Novels are a thing of beauty. I’ll wait forty years if it means I can listen to another of your novels. Please don’t ever quit the craft that you have mastered. Lastly, I thank you for your Novels, they have filled my mind with hope and imagination.
Marko, I know you were a student, but you blow Scalzi away. Having Luke Daniels as the reader on Audible is a master stroke. I have just finished my second listen to the frontline series, and you have made me truly care about your characters.
Aftershocks is outstanding, and I am anxiously awaiting the next in both series. Great to hear you are continuing your efforts on both. I am not sure if you dropped a lot of acid in high school, but damn you have a heck of an imagination. The worlds you create take me away out of my current existence, and I while Luke explains my surroundings, I can see the snow on new falsbard, feel the acceleration in the drop ship, hear the lanky screeches, and understand the deep feelings Andrew has for his wife.
You write like Heinlein, and can create worlds and personalities that are so real and vivid i can almost touch them. You have a gift. God bless you and keep em coming!
I’m greatly looking forward to new novels in both series.
Thanks very much for the comment. In the meantime, I will checkout The Paladium Wars. Looking forward greatly to Orders of Battle.
