Due to health concerns related to the current coronavirus/COVID-19 outbreak, my publisher has decided to cancel their participation at Emerald City Comic Con, so I won’t be in Seattle or at ECCC next week. (Sorry if you were looking to come to panels or get a book or two signed.)
In related news, we just had our first confirmed COVID-19 case in my state, and it’s someone from my county. That person is an employee of the local university hospital, so there’s a good chance people in the Upper Valley are going to buy the local grocery stores empty now. Alas, we here at Castle Frostbite are homebodies even in the most favorable conditions, and we are out in the country, so we are in a good position to ride this out.
That’s ok, stay safe in NH! There are some advantages to living up this way. I am a long time fan since the first Frontlines book, and kind of a neighbor over in Maine. I anxiously await the new books in both series. I hope you and your family stay well.
Hopefully we’ll see you when they reschedule the con!
Sams and Costco are bare shelf for a lot of items nearly with this irrational panic. I walked in one store and thought I had time warped to day before Thanksgiving holiday meal shopping crowd. Except no holiday music piped in, no holiday cheer or smiles… just anxiety and annoyance at all the other shoppers with their same timely idea.
Probably too late to sneak into book 7 , but it might be fun to see one of the space navy’s ships named COVID-19 for the virus colony that broke away from earth to isolate themselves lol.
Sorry about the cancellation… makes me think of Grayson’s dilemmas he inevitably faces with the prudent responsibility (returning to Frostbite to save thousands) or the immediate and selfish desires (like seeing Halley, getting married and seeing his mom). Who knows how your decision tips the outcome Marko!? Sometimes it seems, when we have to take what we are served , why does it gotta be some variant of S sandwich?
…. re-reading Frontlines series to kill time till I can get #7 to read … maybe be safe to crack the airlock after
Good to hear from you Marko. Sorry it’s taken so long to get back to you, but unfortunately life gets in the way and worry over my father is a big part of it.
We haven’t been reading anything yet. It’s going to take a long time for my father to come to terms with his condition now.
But hopefully some day soon we’ll return to some sense of normalcy and finally get some reviews up for you. I sure apologize for that, but my father simply isn’t able yet.
As for our current flu fears, I’m sorry it has struck so close to home for you, but let’s face it, it’s already everywhere.
I do have to disagree with you about masks though. It’s prudent to wear a sneeze/cough mask when you know you’ll be around a lot of people.
A lot of people don’t practice correct prevention and all it takes is a sneeze and a huge radius is affected.
Just breathing the same air with an airborne pathogen had a large radius, so there is benefit to wearing a decent mask.
If people make fun of those that do then mask wearers will have the last laugh when others get sick (and no, it’s not a laughing matter)
Anyway, it’s nice hearing from you.
Please take good care and precautions.
Your family is most important.
Sincerely,
Brittany McDonald (and on behalf of my father, Alan)
Bummer to hear about the Con trip… as an employee of said local university hospital, I’m sure things will be in a bit of an uproar, but I’m not too worried personally… of course, I have to say as an author of Post-Apocalyptic fiction this whole thing is giving me plenty of story fuel…
So far, for me, COVID-19 status is “don’t-panic-but-don’t-ignore”. I hope I don’t have to elevate that.
