The delayed audiobook version of ORDERS OF BATTLE was released yesterday, and it’s now available via Amazon/Audible.
The new narrator is Eric G. Dove. As I have mentioned before, the delay in production was due to the unexpected passing of Angelo DiLoreto, who was scheduled to narrate the book originally. As most of you will probably understand, that sort of thing can’t be fixed on the spot.
I have really enjoyed this series! But, I’m sooo left hanging… will the Washington make it back, etc.??? Any ETA on Book 8? Thank you for the pleasure escaping 🙂
So like is when will there be an ETA on book 8? I definitely enjoy the series but I don’t want it to last until Grayson’s retirement.
I’m new to reading your website, so I apologize upfront for what is probably a question that has been answered in depth.
Why switch away from Luke Daniels? I know he’s a popular narrator. Is his schedule way to full to get narrations done in time? Or alternatively, is he just so in demand his rate has just gotten to high?
Also, I just finished Ballistic on audiobook yesterday. I thought the new guy did a good job. Sad to hear that bad news.
His schedule is too full. He’s booked for the next year and a half, and I outpaced him by getting out two novels per year instead of one.
I really enjoyed the latest book after getting over the change in narrator, which also jarred me in the Eagles of the Empire series. I like how the secrets of the Lankies are so slowly peeled away, and the ‘ship stranded far from home’ device is always a treat (Lost Fleet, ST Voyager etc.). It is only sad that I have to wait again for the rest of the books to land. Came to the series in early 2020 and could simply binge them, and they are very bingeable. Best

I thought this book was excellent (as I have come to expect), and I could not put it down. I had no trouble with the sound quality. I kind of preferred Luke as narrator because I was used to him in this series, but Eric did a credible job and after awhile I didn’t notice the difference. I was a bit alarmed when it came to an end where it did, and no next book showing as pre-order. I’m excited to see where this is going. It seems that the next book in the Palladium Wars will be the next book out, and I’m not complaining, because I love those too. Can you give us any ballpark when the next Frontlines book might show up?
definitely not the most exciting book of the series. Felt kind of empty. Luke brought these characters to life. it was difficult to get into the book with the new narrator. When will the next book in the series come out?
Been waiting for a long time for this. I really enjoyed it. I have a question though that boggled my mind a bit. It’s about the timeline. Book 2 seems to be at the start of his 2nd enlistment of 5 years and Andrew is a Staff. Book 4 seems to be about a year after book 2 and Grayson is now a SFC with a Drill Sergeant billet and he seems to be a year into it. From there we have a one month journey to Leonidas and a few months to mars. At Mars I was tracking about 6/7 years of time and service. Grayson spends 18 months as an advisor to the Lazarus brigade (I assume it’s his tenure as a 1st Lieutenant) and we meet again as Captain with somewhere in the ball park of 9/10 years of service because his second enlisted contract was talked about. He’s also had a few Mars QRF patrols and if I recall correctly those are 6 month rotations? Very early in the book he mentioned not seeing a lanky in 4 years but mentions only 12 years of service. Based on what I’ve been tracking Grayson is at the 14/15 year marker. In the prior book he encountered some lankies. Am I off on Grayson’s time in service record? Also been imagining his fruit salad on his medal rack and wonder what most of them look like. While I assume they are mostly based of US medals (Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Navy [Fleet] Cross) I’d be entertained to see his ribbon rack one day. I know I’d have a laugh if Colonel Unworth ran into Major Grayson as well.
My notes have him at 12 years of service, but it’s possible that my math was off just a little. TERMS OF ENLISTMENT takes place in 2108 when Andrew is 21, and ORDERS OF BATTLE happens in 2120 when he is 34.
I’m just disappointed if I’m being honest. I was just expecting more after so long waiting. Six hour of the eight hour book is just talk. I’m actually so saddened it feel, like you’ve gave up on the series.
Also I think the terrible quality of the narrator on top of this is the final nail in the coffin. I sadly won’t be following the series anymore.
Changing voice actors in the first place was a terrible idea in my opinion.
I am disappointed; even with death, you should have found a narrator that was not a nose speaker. All I can hear is someone grabbing their nose and trying to speak in a well for manner. Have a good day. The last talk, so to speak.
I was surprised. I thought Eric Dove sounded a lot like Luke Daniels. Their voices were very similar. I thought Eric did a pretty decent job of narration.
That’s why we picked him out of the choices we had…I thought his voice and style was most like Luke’s.
I don’t know if you have the ability to affect the audiobook production, but the sound quality is pretty bad. The audio has no bass with extremely high peaks that hurt your ears. I had to turn the volume way down from what I usually set for audiobooks in my car. I also had to crank the bass up to the max just to have anything. It sounds like the production went for maximum volume over all others.
I can forward it to the audiobook team to let them know about the issues.
He did a good job, of course it’s hard to beat Luke Daniels and come out of the gate on a later book in a series. Overall though, amazing book, great narration, and I cannot wait for the next one.
