There’s also a Crystal Lake over in Maine near Bridgton…according to Stephen King that one has a demonic toy monkey at the bottom….
I think there’s what… Four “crystal lake” lakes in New Hampshire?
And a couple of them are within 20 miles of each other.
Never make that mistake with Winnepesaukee (I spent summers there as a child).
Doesn’t Winnepesaukee mean “Lake that looks like transparent quartz” in the local native American dialect?
Like most “indian named” places in new england it means “whatever bullshit we came up with that sounded like it would get tourists to come here” 😉
And in all seriousness, no-one has a freaking clue:

I suspect most of those “names” are the local dialect for “Why is that stupid wide eyes pointing at the lake?”
I was wrong, it’s three “crystal lakes” in NH, and the two closest are 35 miles apart as the crow flies (the little one in south Manchester and the medium one in Gilmanton), and 42 miles apart for the other two (Gilmanton to Enfield).
If you drip lemon juice in the right place on the Constitution and hold it over a light bulb, you will see Article 4 1/2, which states that “Every State Muƒt Have At Leaƒt One Lake Called ‘Cryƒtal’.“
