I’ve had an essay in the works for weeks now. It’s mostly for my liberal and left-leaning friends and lays out in great detail why opposition to civilian gun ownership is fundamentally un-progressive, historically and philosophically speaking.
And out comes The Polemicist with an article that precisely lays out the argument for gun ownership from a left-socialist perspective, thereby blowing all my work away.
It’s a very good and thorough read, and immensely thought-provoking.
This essay needs to be published on the front page of every newspaper in America! It’s not easy reading, but it is honest, direct and to the point. I’m sharing it with everyone I know.
I read the first third then my eyes started to glass over in the section about revolution and the author’s fairly un-varnished communist ideology – which I give them credit for being honest about.
I would second, third, whatnot the request that Marko post his article, which I expect to be both shorter and more pragmatic.
I think that it’s absolutely worth reading the entire way through. Go back to it, and finish it off piece by piece, if you have to.
Yup. A dedicated Anarcho-Syndicalist is completely against gun control.
You can’t have a communist workers revolution if you keep the workers disarmed.
I still want your essay. It will likely have the huge advantage that there’s actually a chance my left leaning friends will read enough of it to get to the point. The only reaction I’ll get from the linked essay is TL;DR.
BTW, I’ve obviously not read that (rather lengthy) article yet. I second wanting to hear your version, in part because you seem to get this stuff across more succinctly than many.
“A standing army is a professional permanent army. It is composed of full-time career soldiers and is not disbanded during times of peace. It differs from army reserves, who are enrolled for the long term, but activated only during wars or natural disasters, and temporary armies, which are raised from the civilian population only during a war or threat of war and disbanded once the war or threat is over.” http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Standing_army
“Congress may establish and support the armed forces, but no appropriation made for the support of the army may be used for more than two years. This provision was inserted because the Framers feared the establishment of a standing army, beyond civilian control, during peacetime.” http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Article_One_of_the_United_States_Constitution#Section_8:_Powers_of_Congress
What is the DHS? What is SWAT? What have domestic police forces become?
They are VERY well equipped armies, absolutely out of control, operating above the law, amassed during peace time, and exist ONLY to operate in opposition to US citizens. We The People are the only enemy of these standing armies. Remember, everybody is a criminal.
“A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”
How many laws and rules specify “law enforcement” exemptions, especially when it comes to weapons?
These exemptions are the seed of civil war. The current ban and confiscate fad may well be the spark.
I really wish that someone articulate would write about the imbalance of force these separatist laws create, how there should be no exemptions for police officers, how the police force should be composed of normal citizens and should be operating under the very same rule set as the rest of us. Badge and uniform or not.
No concealed carry exemptions for police.
No open carry exemptions for police.
No select fire assault rifle exemptions for police.
I’d still like to read your essay. I’m sure it has some unique perspective.
